Bambarakanda Falls is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka, plunging a staggering 263 meters (863 ft) down a sheer rock face. Located in a forest of pine trees near Kalupahana, the falls are a strikingly vertical stream of water that turns into a fine mist before hitting the pool at the bottom. The setting is majestic and serene. A pathway through the pine forest leads visitors to the base of the falls, where you can feel the spray and even take a dip in the natural pool if conditions allow. The surrounding area offers excellent hiking, including a trail that leads to the top of the falls for a dizzying view down. Compared to other tourist sites, Bambarakanda is relatively quiet, allowing for a peaceful interaction with nature. The sheer scale of the waterfall is humbling. A visit here is often combined with a trip to the nearby Lanka Ella falls. It is a prime spot for nature photography and a highlight for waterfall chasers.
